Our final conference focused on policy recommendations and preparedness for future transformations, stemming from ALBATTS 4-year research intelligence and assessment of the battery value-chain changing landscape.

The event was dedicated to professionals involved and related to a sustainable energy storage value-chain in the need for a long-term perspective on the required competences and jobs to this emerging sector.

In the ALBATTS Tour for Skills event for Italy, we presented the results of the 4 years of operation of our project.

This webinar was especially addressed to the Italian audience. It was organised in collaboration with IBIS Polo di Innovazione per la Chimica Sostenible Novara and Consorzio Scuola Comunità Impresa (CSCI) and supported by Sistema Poli di Innovazione Piemonte.

The webinar intended to promote a balance between different perspectives and endeavours which lead to a conversation around how skills assessment from the ERASMUS+ ALBATTS and the GreenSkills4H2 projects can be adapted to cross-sector green jobs. Thus, to see in what way education and skills development can add value to the skills that the labour market requires and how this in turn can contribute to increased competitiveness within the different EU regions.

Organised in the frame of the European Sustainable Energy Days, this webinar gathered stakeholders aiming at a prepared education ecosystem, by assessing labour market required skills and developing knowledge adapted to a green transition and a growing EU economy.

This webinar addressed the main issues regarding the safety aspects of the use (including charging), maintenance, repair and disposal of electric vehicles.

The battery industry is a relatively new field in Europe. Can human resources from other and potentially declining industries be transferred to the battery ecosystem? Which industries are more similar and more prone to provide successful workers to the battery sector? What are the training programs already in place to ease that transition?

These and other relevant topics were addressed in this webinar.

The rising demand for electrified vehicles together with insecure sources are expected to turn batteries re-use and recycling in Europe into a key lever in ensuring constant streams, cost reduction and mitigation of risk around looming raw material supply constraints.

This event addressed this and other related topics, namely the ones on the skills and competencies needed to face the coming challenges in this field.

Europe is going through a rough period where the supply of different materials may be at risk. How does it affect the green transition and the consequent need for skills and competent workforce? What risks can be identified in the materials and battery value chain in possible future crisis scenarios?

This event was focused on electrification in the aviation field, and how can batteries be used to achieve lower emissions in these applications. It will also address the job roles & skills that will be needed to succeed in the electrification of aviation applications.

The webinar was primarily focused on drones and small passenger planes.

This webinar explored the electrification of heavy-duty vehicles, particularly battery trucks and buses. It also addressed the job roles & skills that will be needed to succeed in the electrification of the freight segment. Vehicle manufacturing, application of the batteries into the vehicle and servicing & maintenance were discussed, also from the user perspective.

The rapid electrification of society needs not only batteries but also systems that support their use. Battery Management Systems (BMS) are necessary for monitoring and controlling batteries in a wide range of applications, from electric vehicles to battery energy storage.

In this webinar, we discussed how BMS is applied. We also took a look at the BMS-related job roles and learned about the related skills and competencies.

The Maritime industry is at the forefront in autonomous operations. We read much about self-driving cars, but traditionally this is small scale pilots. In Maritime, autonomous operations have a longer history and the projects are larger. Innovation and technology development is rapid and advanced in Maritime. Leading battery technology is a key driver for the industry. 

Autonomous operations drive the use of Virtual Reality and advanced simulation technology, to train new skills and competences for exiting new job roles in the Maritime Industry.

Recycling the Lithium-ion batteries at the end of their life could provide important economic benefits, reduce the need for new mineral extraction, and provide resilience against vulnerable links and risks in the supply chain. 

However, the challenges associated with battery disassembly are numerous, be they legislative or technical. For most remanufacturing and recycling processes, battery packs must be disassembled to module-level at least. This is currently mostly done manually. The weights and high voltages of traction batteries mean that qualified employees with high-voltage training, as well as specialized tools to prevent electrocution of operators or short-circuiting of the pack, are required for such dismantling.

This was the first webinar debating the qualifications needed for electric vehicles manufacturing and batteries integration.

This workshop was intended to provide a discussion of the future needs in skills and competences related to Stationary Battery Energy Storage through selected speakers and interaction with the audience. Three main areas were focused on: Grid and Telecom applications and Battery Safety.

ALBATTS’ first online workshop on the Battery cell manufacturing process discussed current and future needs in job roles, skills, and competences with experts from the EU market. Presentations were followed by a debate focused on education skills, market expectations, political initiatives and current global players in the battery market.

The electrification of maritime industry needs new skills sets and competences. The focus of this webinar was to introduce the audience to the specifics of maritime applications of batteries, and to provide an understanding of current and future skills and competences. The question of how to attract new talent was also explored.
